Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) took advantage of the epidemic period to actively carry out the construction of the north runway. The project has now entered the final open inspection phase before completion. Minister Lin Chia-lung of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications was accompanied by TIAC and the engineering team today (28th) on a personal visit to the north runway to inspect the construction results, during which Minister Lin thanked the engineering team for continuing to go all out under the scorching summer heat and completing the engineering task as scheduled while maintaining work quality. The Minister stated that the high-quality runway completed by re-planing would definitely bring the best flight safety guarantee to aircrafts and passengers, thereby ensuring that Taoyuan Airport meets the challenging demand for the recovery and growth of traffic in the post-epidemic era of the future!

Minister Lin Chia-lung, accompanied by Chairman Lin Kuo-shian, President & CEO Lin Hsiang-sheng and the TIAC engineering team went to the 05L runway end of the North Runway to listen to the construction results briefing, and also inspected the completion status of the runway on site. He furthermore installed the last runway light on the spot, and connected with the control center to verify that the test runway lighting system is working normally and ready to be reactivated to welcome arriving aircrafts.

Minister Lin was quite satisfied with the results of the North Runway Planing Project, which was originally planned to be closed and rebuilt after the Lunar New Year holidays next year (2021). However, TIAC deployed ahead of schedule under the instructions of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, grasped the timing of the significant reduction in transportation volume during the epidemic period, accelerated the design and contracting operations, closed earlier on May 28 this year, and greatly shortened the work schedule by continuing with construction work regardless of day and night. All of these efforts have enabled the runway be reopened for use at the beginning of September, greatly improving the quality of airport services, and exhibiting a performance that is well worthy of recognition.

The north runway of Taoyuan Airport, with a total length of 3,660 meters and a construction area of 282,000 square meters, uses flexible asphalt pavement, therefore the planing process is extremely complicated. This time TIAC and the construction team have gone all out to achieve the planing of the north runway as scheduled. Maintenance tasks, in the future, will also be performed with the same stringent standards as TIAC continues to strengthen the quality of various airport facilities and engineering to provide domestic and foreign passengers with the best services.
