Taoyuan International Airport Typhoon Emergency Response Procedure

According to an international media, the violent typhoon “Soulik” may possibly cause Taoyuan International Airport shut down operation. Taoyuan International Airport Corporation Ltd. (TIAC) is officially clarifying that, the airport and airlines will maintain operation based on the weather forecasts updated by Aeronautical Meteorological Service in CAA. Normally airlines will make the final decision to flight operation dependent on relative regulations, weather forecasts and pilot’s license testing results.

When typhoon threats or arrives at Taoyuan airport in 24-35 hours, according to Taoyuan International Airport Typhoon Emergency Response Procedure, Aeronautical Meteorological Service in CAA will immediately announce Typhoon alert (W36) to Taoyuan airport.

When typhoon threats or arrives at Taoyuan airport in 12-24 hours according to weather forecast, Aeronautical Meteorological Service in CAA will immediately announce Typhoon alert (W24) to Taoyuan airport. TIAC will immediately develop “Typhoon Emergency Response task force” in Operation Control Center in Terminal 2, which will be led by the President of TIAC directly, supported by Vice President of TIAC. In the task force there will be several divisions which will be led by general managers both from Air Aviation & Weather Services in CAA and TIAC as well.

Following this procedure and orders by MOTC, TIAC has developed Typhoon Emergency Response task force on 09:30am of Jul.11, coordinating and asking all entities in Airport to well prepare for all facilities, stores and ER kit. Restaurants and bus service providers have been asked to ensure enough meals and personnel in case of emergency.

In order to avoid inconvenience to passengers, tour buses are allowed to park temporarily along the curbsides of 1F & 3F, Terminal 2 started from 12:00pm Jul. 12 until midnight of Jul.13. All drivers are strongly suggested to follow the instructions by Aviation police and security staffs.

Normally airlines will make the final decision to flight operation dependent on relative regulations, weather forecasts and pilot’s license testing results. All passengers who are planning to Taoyuan airport during special weather conditions are advised to consult the airlines, check weather forecasts and keep safe personally.
